14th Annual Whiskey Off-Road Bike Challenge This Weekend!

The Whiskey Off-Road Bike Challenge is returning for to Prescott for its 14th year! Celebrate all things bikes and cheer on your favorite bikers as they ride from Whiskey Row through the Prescott National Forest in the 15, 30, or 50-mile races. This great annual event brings lots of new visitors to our community and helps fundraise to support local non-profit organizations such as the Yavapai County Food Bank and Prevent Child Abuse Arizona. Although you might no longer be able to register for the main races, there are still plenty of fun activities for you to enjoy this weekend, April 28th through 30th, during The Whiskey Off-Road Bike Challenge!

 

 

Four Peaks Brewing Company Music Festival

On Saturday, April 29th, head to Courthouse Square (120 South Cortez Street) for all-day music and fun! Admission is FREE to the concert though all attendees must donate 2 canned goods to the Yavapai Food Bank. Enjoy delicious beer from the Four Peaks Brewing Company Beer Garden as you rock out to the music of these fantastic bands throughout the day:

 

10:00 am - Sugar & the Mint

 

11:30 am - Vacation Day

1:00 pm - Crossed-Eyed Possum

5:00 pm - Roger Clyne

6:00 pm - Ozomatli

 

 

Kids' Fun Run

 

 

Have your children join in on the biking fun on Sunday, April 29th, during their special fun runs. There are two different courses. The Kid's Ride 3 Proof starts at 9:05 am and takes riders along the Greenway Trail through Granite Creek Park. This course allows participants to get a feel for off-road biking and is recommended for experienced riders only. Kid's Ride 1 Proof starts at 9:15 and follows a half mile course in downtown Prescott. This ride is perfect for younger children. Parents are welcome to ride, run, or walk with their kids. Helmets are required for both courses. Swing by the Bike & Gear Expo throughout the weekend to register. The cost to participate is a $10 donation to Prevent Child Abuse Arizona.

Help Prescott Valley Improve Their Community Parks!

Prescott Valley offers incredible recreational facilities for its residents. With 23 parks located throughout the town, it is easy to enjoy time in the great outdoors. The community is working to make their parks even better for its residents by competing with other American cities for a $20,000 improvement grant from the National Recreation and Park Association. And, YOU can help Prescott Valley win!

 

 

By Sunday, April 30th, go to NRPA.org nominate Prescott Valley and vote for your favorite community parks! The city with the most votes will when $20,000 to makeover their parks! As an added bonus, you will be entered into a drawing for a tablet simply by nominating Prescott Valley. Be sure to vote once every day until the 30th! This is an incredible opportunity for residents to support their beloved community.

 

 

The Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation Department is also asking residents to take selfies of themselves at their favorite local park. Email the photos to hfoster@pvaz.com. Photos will be used on the Prescott Valley Facebook page.

Challenge Yourself in the Whiskey Basin Trail Runs!

Prescott is a dream come true for anyone that likes to maintain an active lifestyle in the great outdoors. With a stunning natural landscape and recreational amenities such as the Prescott Circle Trail, it is easy to explore and keep yourself healthy and fit. There are also great community events to participate in! Don’t miss out on the 2nd ​Annual Whiskey Basin Trail Runs this Saturday, April 8th!

 

 

Test your endurance in one of 4 different foot races that take runners through pine and juniper forests and desert trails on the Prescott Circle Trail. Starting and ending at Watson Lake Park (3101 Watson Lake Park), runners will go around the scenic city of Prescott as they compete to be the fastest. There are 4 distance races that you can participate it:

 

88 Km - Starts 5:00 am

 

57 Km - Starts 7:00 am

31 Km - Starts 8:00 am

10 Km - Starts 9:30 am

 

 

 

The race includes a t-shirt, timed race results, aid stations, post-race celebration, awards for top 3 finishers at each distance for men and women. Every finisher will also receive an award for their accomplishment. Be sure to join everyone for a special night out on Whiskey Row starting at 10:00 pm.

Think you are up for the challenge? Register in advance HERE or on the day of the race.

 

Packets can be picked up on Friday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at The Hike Shack (104 North Montezuma) or on Saturday from 4:00 am to 9:00 am at Watson Lake Park.
